Ian McCulloch, affectionately known as 'Slicer', has passed away peacefully at his home in Magherafelt, surrounded by family. The North West Referees Association described him as a 'true gentleman' and said his long service and dedication to the game will always be remembered.

What comes next?
A service of thanksgiving for Ian's life will take place in Christ Church, Castledawson, on Thursday, July 30th at 2.00pm, followed by burial in St Swithin's Parish Churchyard, Magherafelt. The club and other local football clubs will continue to pay tribute to Ian's memory and dedication to the game.
Crusaders FC's next fixture is against Dungannon Swifts at home on September 15th, 2026, and the team will be wearing black armbands in memory of Ian McCulloch. The club has also announced that a minute's silence will be observed before the match to pay tribute to the late referee.
In a statement, the club said: 'Ian was a highly respected referee who gave his all to the game. He will be deeply missed by the players, coaches, and staff at Crusaders FC and the wider football community in Northern Ireland.'
