Crusaders FC, represented by midfielder Darcie McNeill, are determined to make a strong start to the new Premiership campaign, aiming for improved consistency to secure a top-half finish. The Crusaders Strikers, a North Belfast side, are set to travel to Inver Park to face Larne in their Friday night league opener, with McNeill emphasizing the importance of hitting the ground running to avoid past inconsistencies.

Last season, the Crusaders Strikers finished fifth, demonstrating a strong conclusion to their campaign with four wins in their final six games. However, a sluggish opening spell proved costly, leaving them too far adrift to contest for a top-half split. Darcie McNeill is resolute that history will not repeat itself, and the team will learn from their previous slow start.

Reflecting on the previous year, Darcie McNeill stated the team was “quite content” with their overall play, but admitted disappointment that it took them “a while to get going.” This initial struggle, she believes, ultimately cost them a place in the top four. Addressing the team's consistency issues is a primary focus for the club this year, a point they are actively working on to correct.

The challenge of maintaining consistency was highlighted recently when Crusaders Strikers suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to Lisburn Ladies in the League Cup. Despite this setback, McNeill managed to get herself on the scoresheet, showcasing her individual contribution. This result underscores the immediate need for the team to find their rhythm and maintain high performance as they prepare for the demanding Premiership season.

The primary objective for Crusaders Strikers is to significantly improve their league position and consistently compete at the highest level. By making a fast start and maintaining strong performances throughout the entire campaign, the club hopes to achieve its goal of breaking into the top half of the table. The opening fixture against Larne is therefore seen as a crucial opportunity to set a positive tone for a successful season.
